Agrilife24.com: ACI has marketed exportable & industrially usable “Valencia” Seed potato all over the country this year which has been imported from one of the largest Seed Potato company of Netherlands named Schaap Holland. Currently it resulted satisfactorily in almost all farmers’ fields specially in Joypurhat, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Munshigonj, Cumilla, Dinajpur which created huge farmers expectation toward this variety.
After hearing the successful result of Valencia Potato, Mr. Leon Haanstra, International Accounts Manager has visited Bangladesh & experimented the Valencia seed potato fields of remote areas in Cumilla & Munshigonj. He discussed about yield & quality of Valencia variety with farmers, Seed Dealer, Retailers while visiting farmers’ fields.
Yield evaluation result demonstrates that ACI marketed Valencia has 40MT average yield/Hector which is 37% higher than existing similar varieties available in the country. This variety become matured for sales by 55-60 days & can be preserved for maximum 85 days in the field. The most expectant matter is that this variety is capable of providing 31 MT Yield/Hector within 55-60 days which ensured the farmers more profit through early harvesting & sales. As a result, variety is getting huge popularity to farmers day by day. Besides this, Valencia variety can be preserved for 90 days in normal temperature.
Having dry matter of about 25% & above with oil absorbing power below 3%, this has been recognised as one of the best potato varieties for making delicious French fries. One of the common diseases in White scene potato of our country is Scab which causes 20-30 MT yield damage to farmers. Being Scab tolerant variety Valencia can save farmers from such loss.
In very short time Valencia potato variety has caught the eye of Seed potato farmers astonishingly specially for its highly productive & diseases resistant characteristics with export & industrially usage aspects.
