Agrilife24.com:In a timely initiative to address a critical public safety issue, the Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central, in collaboration with the Rajshahi Mohila Technical Training Centre (TTC), successfully organized a vocational training workshop on snake identification, snake rescue, and the treatment of snake bites. The event was held on Sunday, August 25, at 4:00 PM at the Mohila TTC campus.
The training was designed to equip 50 female trainees from the technical centre with essential, life-saving skills. The program's urgency was highlighted due to the recent influx of floodwaters carrying Russell's Viper snakes from the Farakka Dam region of India, increasing the risk to local communities.
The session featured expert insights from Guest Speaker Mr. Md. Abu Saeed, a renowned Snakes Specialist from Dhaka. He provided comprehensive practical knowledge on identifying venomous and non-venomous snakes, safe handling and rescue techniques, and first-aid procedures for snake bites.
Mr. Mohammad Shofiqul Islam, Principal of Rajshahi Mohila TTC, presided as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of such vocational skills, stating that this knowledge empowers individuals to contribute positively to community safety and public health.
The event was chaired by Rtn. Md. Atiqur Rahman, Vice President of Rotary Club of Rajshahi Central. He underscored the Rotary Club's commitment to community service and disaster preparedness.
Rtn. Dr. Md. Hemayatul Islam Arif, a Past President of the club, explained the critical timing of the workshop: "With floodwaters bringing Russell's vipers into our communities, this training is not just educational—it is a necessary measure to save lives.
