Special correspondent: Successful application of biotechnology will bring back the lost glory of Golda (Giant River Prawn) in the country. For this purpose, a seminar titled "Building the Future: Applying Biotechnology in Golda Farming" was organized for the first time in the country on Tuesday (Jule20) in the capital Dhaka.

This seminar jointly organized by Agro Solution and MAVERICK INNOVATION. Aqua experts believe that will contribute effectively to the return of the lost glory of Giant River Prawn (Golda) in Bangladesh.

Director General Department of Fisheries Kh. Mahbubul Haque, Bangladesh was present as the chief guest of the seminar. Albert Tacon, Founder & Owner of AquaHana LLC participated in the main discussion in the seminar, besides, Mr. Giva Kuppusamy of GK AQUA SDN BHD was joined virtually from Malaysia. Mr. Aung Tun Aye, CEO of Agro Solutions, delivered the welcome speech.

Technical information were presented by Dr. Amzad Hossain Professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Mr. Sohail Ibn Sattar CEO of AquaGen, Dr. M A Kabir Chowdhury founder of MAVERICK INNOVATION & Dr.Kakolee Mohanto Kaya of Agro Solutions.

About a hundred invited persons from different parts of the country saw the light of hope in this seminar on golda farming which was organized for the first time in Bangladesh. They express their feelings; Many people say that golda is our pride, this white gold is disappearing due to proper knowledge, guidelines and technical skills. Golda is also in considerable demand in the domestic market; The market price is good so we can make financial profit by marketing in the country.

In order to survive in the international market, there is no alternative to the application of biotechnology, the speakers present at the seminar urged to work in coordination with everyone from academia to researchers-entrepreneurs, industrialists, shrimp farmers.

In addition to the discussion in the seminar, several researchers and nutritionists presented various questions. The negotiators felt that this seminar is very important to encourage golda farming in the country and to make golda safe and prosperous. The chief guest of the event Kh. Mahbubul Haque, made a special request to the organizers to identify the problems raised by the researchers and stakeholders and send them to the Department of Fisheries along with a recommendation. He said that he and his department will cooperate fully in this regard.

Discussions emerged that the main problem in golda farming is PL. Discussants also mentioned the inadequacy of broodstock feed. Although there are 45 hatcheries in the country, all the hatcheries are not operational now. Researchers believe that the main reason for this is technical efficiency, skilled manpower and accurate information. Speakers said to focus more on Good Aquaculture Practice, Scientific Method, quality water Supply.

The researchers said this event will serve as an excellent platform for the beginning of something good; Now we should all take this work forward.
