Hysun-36 Sunflower: A Promising Variety towards Self-Sufficiency in Edible Oil

Agrilife24.com: To fulfill the demand for edible oil by cultivating sunflowers and reducing import dependency, ACI Seed completed an experimental cultivation of the Hysun-36 hybrid variety of sunflowers at Patuakhali. ACI Seed organized a field day program of Hysun-36 at Mirzagonj, Patuakhali in May 2023.

Mr. Shawkat Osman, Additional Director, Department of Agriculture Extension, Barisal Region was present as the chief guest and delivered his valuable speech. He focused on the nutritional value of sunflowers and showed satisfaction with the performance of the variety.

Mr. Sudhir Chandra Nath, Business Director, ACI Seed was also present at the program and said that Hysun-36 is a short-term drought and saline-tolerant variety which can be harvested in 100-110 days. Its oil content is 46-48%. The potential yield of Hysun-36 is 11.5-12 Mond per Bigha. The cultivation of sunflowers is more profitable than pulse crops for the farmers.

Dr ABM Ziaur Rahman, Country Manager, Advanta Seed International; Mr. Golam Sobhan, Portfolio Manager; Mr. Ferdous Alam, Area Sales Executive, Barisal and Territory Officer participated in the programs along with more than 100 participants including dealers, retailers and farmers. The farmers are highly satisfied with the fantastic result of the variety in their fields and showed a wonderful response to cultivate in the next season.
