Transition cow

CONTEXT
The transition period is the most challenging period in the production cycle of dairy cows. Starting from three weeks prior to calving, cows will need to adapt to tremendous dietary and physiological challenges:

>Negative energy balance: As the amount of rapidly fermentable sugars increases, the rumen health is challenged by acidosis; it often results into poor intake, deficient energy supply, versus high demand for milk
performance and body weight

>An increased oxidative stress which can translate into lower immunity, and higher disease occurrence: high somatic cell count, mastitis, low fertility rate and related problem like retained placenta and metritis

Why Rumen efficiency is key during Transition ?
During calving transition, the change in diet can negatively affect rumen efficiency impacting performance and profitability. The rumen drives the feed digestion and the energy released. Transition often leads to an imbalanced microbiota, poor rumen functionning, limited feed intake, and suboptimal milk production.

Levucell SC: a rumen specific live yeast
> In continuous usage, LSC is well known to improve feed efficiency: it increases rumen pH with less risk of acidosis and increases fiber digestion. Levucell SC excels during challenging conditions such as transition period.

When fed from 30 days before calving, The LEVUCELL SC effect excels after calving

Why Antioxidant status is key for the cow and maternal transfer to the calf?
Transition is also a challenging period for antioxidant status for dairy cows wich can lead to impaired immunity, high somatic cell count, mastitis occurence, retained placenta, metritis and a lower fertility

ALKOSEL and Melofeed: ANTIOXIDANT SUPPLEMENTATION TO STRENGHTEN ANTIOXIDANT STATUS
> Alkosel Se yeast: High Se bioavailability in the cow tissues and maternal transfer through colostrum and milk – compared to inorganic Se sources
> Melofeed, natural source of Superoxide dismutase is a primary antioxidant of the body tissues synergistic with selenium, vitamin E.

Benefits of Alkosel and Melofeed during Transition period (less somatic cell count: up to 50%)
