Aquatic foods offer a life-changing opportunity for the hundreds of millions of undernourished people around the world, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. They have an integral role to play in a sustainable food systems transformation for healthy people and planet.

Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food sectors globally. The quantity of aquatic foods produced through fish farming is expected to exceed that of fisheries by the end of this decade. It's sustainable and equitable growth offers an opportunity to achieve multiple 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals. However, aquatic food systems are largely missing from key global food policy discussions and decision-making.

The launch of the latest Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition policy brief 'Harnessing aquaculture for healthy diets' explores the opportunities and benefits that aquaculture offers to global food security, nutrition, health, employment, and the natural environment.
